Can I try for jobs at other companies after getting an offer letter from a company?
The blatant answer is Yes. People get confused between offer letter andemployment letter and here is the difference
Offer Letter: Issued to you after you clear all the rounds of the interview and the management has decided to hire you. The offer letter contains details about your job location, timings, leave policy and most importantly salary structure. It is upto you to accept the offer or reject it and you may keep trying for jobs at other companies
Employment letter: Issued to you after you confirm your joining and is usually issued on the date of joining. Many companies now are not actually issuing appointment letters. If you visit the company on the date of joining as mentioned in the offer letter, it is considered as your appointment
Safe Practices:
– Do not accept the offer immediately if you are intended to try in other companies . Offer acceptance implies signing the offer letter and sending it back to the company confirming your joining. You can even let the recruiter know that you are getting interviewed by another company and would be able to confirm once you get the result .
– Be friendly o the recruiter. This would help if you have already accepted the offer and got another better offer. You can inform the former recruiter about the new offer and thank them for the effort. Also, make sure that you donot accept counter offers from the first employer which may put you in a ambiguous situation
– Let the recruiter of the second company know that you already hold on offer. This will make them speed up the recruitment process and infact offer you a better package.
