- Normal Headache : Zandu Balm or Dolo (Paracetamol 650 alongwith sound sleep).
- Eyes : Tear Plus in Normal conditions, Betnesol-N in allergic conditions, and Sodium Diclofenac along with Ciprofloxacin in Pain conditions.
- Otrivin or Pivrin in Nasal Congestions not to be used frequently.
- Throat infections – Septilin by Himalaya Drug Company – 2 tablets thrice daily, Strepsils, Lukewarm water with salt gargle, Betadine liquid gargle, Fitkari or Katha used in Paan are immediate sore relievers. Liquid Ulsore may also work.
- Neck, Shoulder or Back Pain – Volini Tube or Move as it suits.
- Chest Congestions – Inhale steam is the best along with some good antibiotic like Doxycycline 100. Do not use cold or spicy items. Expectorants like Corex, Tossex may be helpful.
- Tablet Sinarest, preferably at bedtime, for Cold like conditions and running nose.
- For allergic conditions like itching Cetirizine is recommended with abundant caution.
- Nimesulide, Sodium or Potassium Diclofenac are recommended in second degree pains. Pain Killers are not be taken as a matter of routine.
- No steroids like Betnesol, Betamethasone or Dexamethasone to be taken without prescription.
- Candid-B ointment can be used for itching in private parts of the body including underarms. Candid-B dusting powder is recommended for itching or rashes on the back.
- Use good lotions to prevent Dry Skin and Vaseline for Cracked Lips. Pure Ghee can be another choice. Vegetable oils are best for dry and cracked skin conditions.
- Eat Less and take healthy food avoiding junk food.
- Curd is good for stomach as Curd can be substituted by sporlac tablet only.
- Sometimes Hot Coffee and Veg Soup is helpful in run down conditions.
- Hyperacidity can be taken care of by Gelusil Liquid 4 spoons with cold water. Tablets are Zintec, Pentop or Pantocid and not Pantocid-D as the capital D takes care of vomiting too.
- Use Isabgol Husk to keep the stomach set. However in case of acute diarrhea you can take Lomotil (rarely), Dependal-M and the antibiotic course of tablet Ornof or Orni for 5 days – 1 Tab each after Breakfast and Dinner.
- During Somech upset eat Dalia, Khichdi and Curd to become normal.
- For vomit type situations you can take lemon tea without milk.
- Never miss meals and take all medicines after meals except Zintec and Pentop or Pantocid after which food should be avoided for 2 hours.
- In case of constipation (only acute constipation) Dulcolax tablet can be used.
- In worst cases of diarrhea use Loperamide salt (2 mg) or Capsule Imosec as a matter of last resort. Consult doctor who may supplement with IV fluids like electrolytes and normal saline. Keep with you plenty of at least 10 sachets of Electral Powder of FDC company.
- Take fresh and Hot Food only according to climatic conditions.
- Bend Aids, Medicated Cotton, Dressing materials along with Betadine Tube, Burnol for burn injuries and a few disposable syringes and cizors.
- If you are diabetic patient keep glucometer and a few sugar candies available with you. It is always better to keep your medical history, known allergies along with you in case of extreme emergencies.
- Do not ignore clinical conditions and consult your doctor as self medication can be injurious to health. Your Health worker is the best judge to review medicines available over the counter (OTC) or on prescription.
