Hypertension or High Blood Pressure
Hypertension or High Blood Pressure
The circulation of blood flow in our body put pressure on blood vessel walls. Appropriate blood pressure is very important for our survival and is often referred to as one of our vital and healthy signs. Blood pressure tends to increase with age. Actually, a healthy lifestyle really helps prevent the rise in blood pressure. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, as well as stroke.
This is very dangerous because it often shows no signs or symptoms first. Regardless of gender, race or age, any person can experience high blood pressure. It is estimated that one out of every four adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it will usually last a lifetime. High blood pressure is the most important risk factor for stroke.
Extremely high pressure can lead to clotting in weakened blood vessels, which then bleed in the brain and this can lead to stroke. High blood pressure can also cause blood vessels in the eyes to burst and bleed. If that happens, the vision can be blurred or disturbed and can cause blindness. As the age increases, the arteries throughout the body harden, especially in the heart, kidneys, and brain.
High blood pressure is associated with a hard artery that causes the heart and kidneys to work harder. The kidney serves as a filter to cleanse the body of waste. Sooner or later, high blood pressure can constrict and thicken the blood vessels of the kidneys. The kidneys become less fluid, and waste builds up in the blood because the kidney function to filter does not go well. Kidneys may fail completely.
High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart attacks. The arteries carry oxygen in the blood to the heart muscle. If the heart cannot get enough oxygen, chest pain known as angina, can occur. If blood flow is blocked, there will be a heart attack. High blood pressure is the first number risk factor for congestive heart failure. It is a serious condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to supply the body’s needs.
